Improving Student Learning

Diocesan elementary and secondary schools are accredited by both the Western Catholic Educational Association (WCEA) and the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC). WCEA is a private education accrediting agency established under the sponsorship of the Bishops of the Catholic (Arch) Dioceses of California. WASC is the organization that accredits all colleges and universities as well as public and private secondary schools.

During the 2013 – 2014 school year, Our Lady of the Assumption School underwent a review by WCEA and WASC. A visiting committee spent three days on campus reviewing Our Lady of the Assumption’s Self Study. The committee visited classrooms, held interviews with students, parents, teachers, and staff, and investigated written evidence of responses to the WCEA criteria. In the committee’s final report the following were just a few of the Stellar Accomplishments noted:

  • A clearly defined Mission Statement and Statement of Philosophy that strongly reflect the Catholic identity of the school and are tied to the students‘ experiences and the expectations that the school has for them.
  • Academic achievement of students is evident. A majority of graduates are highly successful in high school and college.
  • Students are very strong in the fundamentals and are well prepared for high school.
  • Our Lady of the Assumption Students perform above the Diocesan average in the ACUITY benchmark assessments.
  • An electives program that enriches the curriculum and also offers academic support for students who need it. Classes like Mathletes, the Business Elective, and Advanced Music challenge students to achieve at a higher level.
  • Parents are highly invested in the school and are actively involved in and participate in numerous school events.

Our Lady of the Assumption School is proud to share its outstanding assessment. Click here to view Improving Student Learning Report.
