My name is Casey McCormick and I am very happy to teach 5-8th Accelerated Math at OLA.
I am 100% a product of and committed to Catholic education. As a child, I attended St. Mel school for all 9 years of grammar school before choosing Loretto High School. Upon graduation I moved to Boston where I continued my Catholic education, receiving both my undergraduate and graduate degrees from Boston College. While a student at BC, I fought for the right to do my student teaching in a Catholic grammar school because I knew without a doubt that that was the direction I wanted for my career. I began my teaching career in the Boston suburbs teaching 5th grade before returning home to Sacramento. Since my return in 2004, I have taught in a variety of roles at Holy Family and then Holy Trinity before coming to OLA. It was when I became a full time math teacher that I truly found the passion that drives me.
Simply put, I believe I radiate a passion for mathematics as well as for middle school children. I am a lifelong learner who actively seeks out professional development and new ways to engage children in learning, and more importantly, loving mathematics. I am a member of the world’s greatest PLC - a collection of math teachers from around the country and world who collaborate daily via Twitter and blogs. Through these interactions with the most extraordinary teachers, I have learned and grown a great deal. I believe all children have what it takes to succeed in math and it is our job as educators to instill a love of learning in them.
