The purpose of the school garden is to beautify the campus and create an additional educational opportunity for the students and teachers. The school garden is a nurturing and fruitful addition to our school and parish community, while also promoting academics, community, environmental stewardship, social awareness and healthy life choices. All students have access to the garden and help complete the seeding and harvesting cycle with the produce being donated to the OLA Saint Vincent de Paul food locker on campus.
For example, students released ladybugs and worms and they also planted radishes, carrots, lettuce. To complete the cycle, the students harvested the many fruits of their labor and delivered the items to the OLA Saint Vincent de Paul food locker. Our Science teacher, Mrs. Antonio has the 5th grade science students plant their bean seeds in the garden once they have finished their in class experiment.
Our Lady of the Assumption School's outdoor play area has undergone significant improvement over the past two years. Because we believe that "playtime" plays a critical role in the development of a child, we have designed a play area where children can run, climb, play, create, dream and imagine. These enhancements include: a renovated track and field, new basketball hoops, and lastly, the crown jewel of our play area, a new playground. This playground features the latest in playground innovation and safety, and has been created to help children develop balance, coordination, muscle endurance and problem solving skills. Best of all, it is fun - and safe!
