The Our Lady of the Assumption School Student Council is comprised of seven officers and ten representatives. One of the primary missions of the Student Council is to raise money for local charities. The primary recipient of these funds has historically been the St. Vincent de Paul Food Locker at O.L.A. In addition, student leaders strive to build community on campus through assemblies, pep rallies, spirit days, and contests. Officers of the Student Council also serve as spiritual leaders for the school community, preparing and delivering morning prayers and meditations three days each week.
Elections for officers are held in the spring for the following school year. Elections for room representatives are held at the beginning of school and again in January. Students in grades four through eight are eligible to serve as room representatives. Students going into grades seven and eight are eligible to serve as Student Council officers.
President (Must be an 8th grader) -The president is responsible for the creation of an agenda for each Student Council meeting. In addition, the president makes sure that each meeting runs smoothly. This office requires outstanding organizational skills and leadership ability.
Vice-President (May be a 7th or 8th grader) - The vice-president must assume the president's duties when the president is unavailable. In addition, the vice-president assists the other officers with their duties when needed. This office requires a strong work ethic and a great deal of flexibility.
Secretary (May be a 7th or 8th grader) - The secretary is responsible for taking notes at each Student Council meeting. In addition, the secretary writes all letters and thank you notes for the Student Council. This office requires strong writing skills and a strong work ethic.
Treasurer (May be a 7th or 8th grader) - The treasurer assists the moderators in collecting and counting the money raised during various fundraisers. This office requires a strong work ethic and good organizational skills.
Publicity Leader (May be a 7th or 8th grader) - The publicity leader is in charge of designing and creating the decorations and signs for all Student Council events. This office requires a strong work ethic and a great deal of creativity.
Spirit Leader (Must be an 8th grader) - The spirit leader is responsible for the planning and execution of all sports pep-rallies. This office requires good organizational skills and a great deal of enthusiasm.
Commissioner-At-Large (Must be an 8th grader) - The commissioner is in charge of keeping the lower grades informed of all Student Council events. In addition, the commissioner must represent the lower grades at the Student Council meetings. This office requires good communication skills with the younger students.
